Im assuming I can play my own MP3's on this using the in-built slot loader, but could I use it with my existing OEM 6cd stacker in the boot and play MP3's, or would I need a seperate Stacker that could read Mp3's...... also would I need the speaker upgrade too.

At present the unit will only play MP3s off its internal CD mechanism. I'm sure in time someone will produce a MP3 changer.... its not too bad though, you can squeeze about 10 albums onto a 700Mb disk so not too many disk changes needed!
The OEM changer uses Alpine's older M-Bus interface, the 7878 (and just about all their other line up) uses their AI-net technology so the OEM unit is made redundant. You can fit a shiny new Alpine 624 changer in the OEM bracket though (

I'd like a 7990!
I think I'll be plumping for the 7969 though, as I've amped up the system and am going for some top-end Focal/Dynaudio/Infiniti front components I think this will be better suited. I didn't buy it for its MP3 capacity so it isn't being fully utilised
By the way, for those interested the 7878 was the 2001 In Cars Magazine Gold Award Winner so it really is a kickass piece of kit!
