Default Airbox off - WOW!

I met IanL for a pint earlier and he showed me the benefits of upgrading your stereo and speakers - Believe me, there is a major difference!!!

However, the best part has to be when he took my airbox cover off - Bl**dy hell, I was smiling like an idiot before, now I look like a cheshire cat on heat!!!!! What a noise!!!!

Thanks Ian, definately worth the pint!

Most pleasurable pint I have earned in a long time James

Let me know how you get on with the audio.

If you go for a console cover and want a hand fitting it - please just shout.

See you in a week and a half

I still remember being stuck in traffic on the way down to Basingstoke and watching Keith (Tyringe) legging it round to the front of his car, ripping the cover off his airbox after hearing what it sounded like.

Makes the car sound much more of a beast, just need my Supersprint exhaust now

I have never reved the car up with the airbox cover off...Is there any decrease in performance when driving around with the cover off? (ie, hotter air reaching the TB)

From what I understand there may be a small loss of power, but I think it is pretty negligible. Having had a couple of runs with the cover off, I would say that the change in sound of the engine is well worth the possible loss of a couple of horses at the top end

OMG, I don't think that I am ever going to put that cover back on! I just drove home from work with it off, and WOT VTEC sounds great! It reminds me of my last honda with a CAI on it. I forgot how nice that sound is!
thanks for the idea -bryon

I took the cover off of mine and I never put it back on up until the day I got my HKS Intake. It sounds even better now.

Here's some info that might be of interest. I took a full set of temperture readings on my stock intake system a few days ago.

8 degrees C ambient (damp evening.).
Running at speed, air intake temp of 30-31 degrees C.
Sat at traffic lights, air intake temp of 40-42 degrees C.

Now roughly, for every 3 degree temperature increase, you lose 1% potential power.

Whether you notice this or not, and are bothered by it is down to the individual. It really annoyed me! (Hence the Mugen CAI....)

-Brian.

(BTW I did the tests with the airbox cover on. If anyone wants to at Supermeet, I can hook the equipment up to their car, go for a short run, and tell them what the engine's doing.)

Well as an exponent and enthusiast of "air box cover off" since MattRS introduced it to me last December (and I haven't had it back on since!) I'm prepared to trade off any minor loss in power for the sheer factor!

But, I would be interested to see the reading Brian, so I may take you up on that offer.

Also, when the summer comes, I may put the cover back on and see if I notice an improvement in performance.
