Air box cover removal - again

Sorry to resurrect this old chestnut, but after all the talk there was about warm air entering the engine leading to a loss of power, I put my air-box cover back on recently. I have to say I didn't notice any improvement in the car's performance at all - in fact it seemed less responsive and slower to accelerate at lower speeds (which was probably psychological but it felt real) and it just seemed to have lost something. So, after a couple of weeks, I took the cover off again and the fun factor is back, big style. I just love it!!!!
Anyway, as to the warm air/loss of power thing, I'll be able to test this out definitively next week in the south of France

I'm sure there was some well educated chat about at what speed the airbox comes into effect (like RAM air).
At standstill I don't think anyone disputed losses due to ambient heat under the bonnet (but maybe more power with the bonnet lifted ala Dyno Test?)
But on the move at lower speeds some thought with airflow over the engine taking heat away they thought there could be more cool air, but at a decent lick, the design of the box will channel air in the correct manner ( I'm taking that as too much could be a problem if it doesn't 'flow' right).

It also could be that some of the recent heat-soak you were having (before putting your airbox cover back on) has trained your ECU to be more conservative temporarily.
If you reset your ECU (search for thread to see how - have to pull a fuse for a few seconds), the power may come back.
This ECU is terrible when it comes to backing-down power due to temp etc... I know it's trying to protect the engine, but it is darned frustrating sometimes.

Yep, I take the point on the ECU and had thought of that..... BUT I suppose the point of my post was.... I don't care.... because I like the sound so much with it off and there is still plenty of power for exciting driving!

When I've time, I'll post the results from helping develop Biker1's homebrew CAI.
Suffice to say, pre-development, even with the airbox lib on, and 2 cai hoses to the front of the car, Biker1's car was intaking heated air. Far worse at idle, but still heated significantly when driving at speed.
Whether the power loss bother you or not in return for the induction noise is a personal preference. But the losses are there - you can see them realtime on a laptop if you've the right equipment hooked up.
