i have a bypass valve but have never used it, still bnib, but i did not have a shield either, but ran my aem cai for about 2 1/2 years in all weathers, and never had a problem, never saw any water in the pipe...
i am sure hydro lock can happen, but i think sometimes its a horror story
the bypass valve will not allow water though the pipe however what it will do is take away the nice sound of the aem cai
