Default Advice sought re. cherished plate

I've just about finished preparing my car for sale, and I'm trying to decide whether to separate the cherished plate or sell with the car. The plate is a S200O ** plate.

Please note that this is not a for sale thread - once I've decided what to do I'll post something in the FS section.

I don't think that I'll get another S any time soon, so feel that it's not worth retaining. Certainly not worth treating as an investment. I've had lots of positive comments about the plate on the car - it's a pretty good way of disguising age.

Will a potential buyer see the car as worth a few hundred

Mine had an S2000** plate when i bought it privately and i think while its not worth much to anyone, its adds appeal to the car over a similar one with standard reg plate. And it does disguise age but they also look better! Good luck with the sale of the car!

It will be deemed a bonus and I doubt that it would make any difference to the sale price.

Probably better to stick it on retention and sell separately.

I agree. Mine came with S2k ** which was great, but I wouldn't have paid more for the car.

So far opinion seems to be that I should remove the reg.

Thanks for the advice.

Yeah, remove plate and sell separately.

Sent my docs off to DVLA last week to get my plate put on retention and a new plate issued.

Once this is sorted the car will be put up for sale, could take weeks tho

As usual I tend to lean the other way. I know the summer is coming and soft tops will sell well. The plate will enhance the saleability of your car - no question.

What's it actually worth by the time you've placed it on retention and paid the fees and had new plates made up for the car?

I have a non-dating, appropriate plate on mine and it's staying on there if and when I sell the car. With only 14k on the clock that's not going to be any time soon.

But you are more likely to buy the car that has the S2000 plate! So my opinion would be leave it on unless you generate some interest on here or Ebay first to test the water?
