Default Advice!

Im in a bit of a situation. my enging blew up a month ago, it was the reason why my engine light was on. honda couldnt pin point the problem but my brother who is a mechanic said that it isnt somthing that the machine would find out. anyway i got it fixed from a company called the engine centre. they rebuilt the bottom half including new camrods cos they bent, and a new head where the pistons smashed it to bits.

Your friend told you to make sure VTEC is working on an engine with less than 500 miles on it? nExt time you see him, give him a smack.

Ok, your last engine blew up. You need to know why, and what fault codes were on the ECU. The fact its come back on VTEC says there is a problem.

Total educated guess, but it may be the oil pump not developing pressure or, its running lean etc... Could be anything.

The amount of times ive heard people replace an engine and it goes bang again is quite a few. I personally cant see how anyone would fork out thousands for a new engine and not know what was wrong with the first.

Engines dont go bang for no reason. Ive seen a number go bang becuse they've been running very lean (faulty MAP / MAF) and the dealer or whoever replaces the engine at high cost, and it turns out to be a

they said that i got to run it in. no more then 3000 revs for the first 500 miles. well i have kept to that apart from last night when my friend said to me, its going in tomorrow so make sure your v tech is working ok. ive done 466 miles
Why didn't you just do the extra 34 miles and then vtec it, it would only have taken you 20 minutes or so? Now you run the risk of invalidating your 5 year warranty from this engine place.

I agree, if clued up enough they will be able to tell that you have used high cam before doing the mileage, I would say that makes your warranry void. (The ECU stores a lot of information especially about when it throws a CEL)

Is 34 miles really going to make that much of a difference though?

If it was an oil pressure thing then VTEC wouldn't engage at all.

Sounds bizarre, where did the S come from in the first place?

Not in reality, but Simon's point is valid.

It takes a few k before a fresh engine stops feeling "tight" imo.

Bedding in is a bit of a contentious issue!

Maybe the vtec didnt engage? Think it will still let you high rev.
