MY99-MY01 The earlier cars were not meant to be run on 95, but the later cars can run on either IIRC

I have to put the odd tank of 95 in and it doesn't seem to make a difference TBH

I think the RON can affect the timming so if you put in a lower octane fuel and the ECU didn't compensate you would get pinking (knocking). Later cars ECU's mapping can compensate for lower octane fuels so all you will get is a slight drop in performance. Unless you install a Mugen ECU of course then its rocket fuel only

In the owners manual it states that the car can be run on the occasional tank of fuekl which is below 98 ron. I'm sure filler cap says it requires 98ron, it also says on there taht the infrequent tank of ron below 98 will not harm the car is it compensates for 95.

I'm going to pop out to the car now and see what it says.

It says:

This car is designed to run on 98 ron or higher.

You may use a fuel with a ron of 95 in this car

the engine will compensate if using a lower ron fuel than 98, but you will experience a drop in performance as a result.

So there you go, it wont do any damage but it wont run as well/quickly.

Incidentally, have you seen the Bristol meet info in the meets section?

I had to use JET 95 ron on one occasion and to me it seemed that there was a marked improvement in performance!

No JET garages roundabout here though.

Sorry, pretty sure I'm working that weekend (20th/21st), but let you know if I'm not.

By the way, is it just me, or does anyone else not see many other S2s around Bristol? Was feeling lonely 'till I read about the meet !
They do seem to be in short supply around Bristol - maybe they only come out at weekends

I hate driving on motorways in the S2000 - not because it's not a good motorway car (it is), but I get much more satisfaction driving down country roads!

Therefore my route home from work (when I drive, normally I catch the train) is along the lines of Trowbridge -> Bath -> Chipping Sodbury -> Iron Acton -> Latteridge -> Thornbury -> Severn Bridge -> Chepstow

The only downside of this is that you don't see many other cars, particularly S2000s

The older S's apparently supposed to have 97+ octaine. My manual say 95+. I can honestly say I dont notice any difference between the two. Also with Honda's rock solid engines I cannot see the problem with using regular.
