Default 8000K HIDs

Hi Everyone

Ive just upgraded the bulbs in the factory HID lights on my s2000 to 8000Ks from HIDs direct. So they now give off a cool ice blue light. Very very pleased with the difference, definitely recommended!

4300K is factory 'yellow' HID
6000k is white HID
8000k is blue white HID

The higher the colour temperature the worse the light output / the less distance the light travels. It may look clearer but you don't see as far.

The light is better from the drivers seat than the old bulbs, and defiantly better than the other car i drive which has halogen bulbs. So happy days for me.

8000k is legal yes, my old DC5 had 12000k in that. Pretty sure 4300 - 12000 are all legal, but don't quote me on that.

4300k gives the most light output, 6000k is slightly blue and loses about 10% - although because you loose some contrast it's even worse when it's wet/raining - 8000k is losing out on about 30-40% of visible light output, 12000k are even worse, as there is no true 12000K bulb, all they do is take an 8000K bulb and paint it. so you loose about 2/3rds of the light output.

Tbh, I think the only strictly approved temperature range is 4100-4700k? Anything else is probably an unapproved bulb anyway.

Jon, most HID companies list their kits/bulbs 'for off road use only'. I ran an 8000k HID kit on my old Civic and I was never pulled over for them.

Agreed 4300 for best light performance, 5000 and 6000 (at a push for most aesthetically pleasing), anything above that is a waste and looks too aftermarket iykwim.
