Hi there, I just got my S2000 serviced this week by Bristol Honda, and they have informed me that apparently the rear pads specifically are 70/80 wear.

Now the car was on 67800 miles last january when the vehicle had discs and pads replaced all around by henrys honda in glasgow. The mileage is now 72500.


The bloke @ bristol honda reckons the calipers are fine but mentioned something about the carriers and grit causing mis alignment.

i've had alook and can't see anything, and was trying to claim defective pads.


anyone got any views on this issue? the brakes are not sticking or binding at all.

i've looked at the pads on the back, and on one side the pad looked quite meaty and on the other side of the vehicle they are wearing down.



any help appreciated.

Something sounds very funny here if I remember rightly the pads tend to wear on the inside at the rear more than the outside.

Are the pads wearing evenly between both wheels but unevenly between sides of the disc? Is that unusual? I'm not convinced it is.

 

If you know a mechanic, get a second opinion before getting your wallet out.

I'm sure your dealer is OK, but there are some out there that see brake pads and service parts as easy money - I had to complain to my local Renault dealer to get my money back when my 'dangerous' pads turned out to be in very good condition.........

 

they have said the calipers are ok

they wanna try and charge me

 

Just to confirm, your rear pads have worn more on one side than the other?

This could be down to a seized caliper piston, seized caliper sliders or excessive corrosion on one side of the disc wearing away the pad too fast.

Or it could be the dealer trying one on with the brakes. They do that a lot.

 

if the disc has excessive corrision to one side, then is this a cause for warranty replacement? after 5k miles?

 

Nah, could be a cause to go elsewhere though.

Its the same everywhere, I was told last year my discs were coroded and would need replacing, its just the edge that never sees the pad
they are still on today at no detriment to the car
in fairness to the garages they have to point out this type of thing to cover their arse in case your brakes go just after service, they now have it documented thet you were advised to change them.

 

check the discs before we start speculating on things like that.

Its more likely that something's seized if you only had new discs 5k miles ago.
