Default 6 year service

Just wondering if this is normal. Seems expensive to me. The quote was from Honda Stratford.
The service dept. said the valve clearances need to be checked at this service which is why it is so expensive. I could understand this if i had covered the
72,000 miles but my car has only done 22,000 miles!. They also say the air filter needs changing which i can understand. because they can de-grade with time. But

They're trying to sell you spark plugs. This happened to me.

Tell them that the S2000 has it's plugs changed at 54k unlike the rest of the Honda model range which is every 36k I think. HUK's computerised service schedule has been known to get this wrong apparently.

I'd phone Avondale Solihull and ask for a quote - I know they are part of the same group, but it would be interesting to see if you get quoted a different price. Avondale Solihull is also easy for you to get to as its on the A34 - you need only pop onto the M42 and go round a few junctions to J4

The 6 year service is the 54K mile one so the spark plugs should be changed in accordance with the service schedule. And they are right in saying that valve clearances are checked which is well worth having done. Speaking as someone who has had a valve retainer fail resulting in a

Is there any mileage in exploring the option of buying the components to be replaced (i.e. air filter, oil filter, drain plug, spark plugs etc - approx

For a Civic, maybe.

For a Boxster/TVR/etc, it's a piss in the sea.

E = MC^2

Everything is relative.
