Default 500 to 900 in the first year, Hmmmm?

Just mosing around on Parkers site, under the Recall notices on UK S2000's, the seatbelt locking recall affecting cars built up to 21/4/2000, from JHMAP........317 to whatever (so my 431 was 124th in the country for domestic sale anyway) this recall affects 1425 cars

Hmm 500 then big fanfare about 900 in the first year, sounds like they got nearly 1500 in the first year to me.

My car was delivered to the dealer in Dec 1999, with the VIN number ending 2040. It was subject to the recall and I did have the problem. The dealer received cars with lower numbers after mine. I don't think that the 113Y series is unique to the UK. There are only three main VIN series for six sales areas. Some of those sales areas have two or more series and some areas are sub-divided by using the first digit of the serial number. IIRC Canada is 8xxxxx. I've given up trying to read anything into the number. I doubt that the number is sequential off the production line, it could be assigned in blocks by order, colour, destination market, etc. who knows?

Our unique UK VIN numbers tell all sort of wierd stories, but as I said this recall affects 1425 cars built and sold in the UK from August 1999 to 21 April 2000.

A search on VIN numbers gives the whole explanation of the VIN number Pete, it details Country of Build, Model Year, Destination (so you can tell Euro imports apart from UK cars), Model Type (i.e. convertible) and then a 'sequential build number' (for that model year, destination country etc etc).

My S is Nov 2000 with 5150 as the last numbers. I also had the recall on the seatbelt.

I see what you mean 1425 official UK cars built up to 21/4/00. I don't think there is any way to differentiate Euro imports from UK cars. There are a possible 6011 cars within that VIN range, of which only 1425 went to the UK. It's interesting that Matt's car, 5150 was not delivered until Nov 2000, but was built before April 2000. Does anyone know what the highest UK MY00 car is? The dropped the sequence number to 000000 and changed the year flag for MY 01. IIRC this became 113n1, instead of 113nY. The 'n' is an undocumented check number!

This recall must have been for the Tonneau cover in this case, as that could affect the seatbelt Matt, thus cars built /delivered with the old Tonneau cover that Honda replaced.

Rob,

Just found your explanation of the VIN from awhile ago.

Explains model year engine codes and locations really well if I knew what KE, KG, KQ And KU meant (S2000 manual at home!).

Still back to 1425 cars in 8 months, could that thus be for these destinations.?

There was a definite recall for the older cars though if you see what I mean. I got apologies etc.

The site details the number of cars affected by my second recall (your first) for the seatbelt mechanism. For this second I think I got the Champagne / Belgium chocolates.

After the price cut I got a
