I too tend to skip gears, usually in heavyish traffic that isn't quite stop/start.
As Dracoro say, one must heel n toe on the way down, time properly on the way up.
In fast driving, it's not really recommended, in case one ballses it up.
Mind you, it doesn't stop absent-minded twats like me trying to shift into 6th in a 5-speed car! Nearly done that several times.
