4th to 6th ?
On my normal commute, there are some nice sections of road where I can give it some However, having VTEC'd from 1st to 4th, I find that I'm seriously run(ning) out of speed limit. In these instances, I normally make a slow change from 4th to 6th.
Does anyone else find this necessary? Will I damage the engine etc?

Some guys on here don't condone missing gears on the downchange incase you put extra strain on the engine as the revs balance out, but on the up change? I do it all the time. 5th Gear on my gearbox is only really used when I am in a hurry....

Be wary of missing too many gears on the up change. Mine used to crunch going from 9000rpm in 2nd to a lazy 5th or 6th - Needed gearbox work!!
I'd say miss A gear's OK, 2 at a push.

4th to 6th isn't that good an idea on the S2000 gearbox. You're going to 'cruise mode' so what's an extra gear change?
5th and 6th share a syncro. There have been a couple (literally a couple - it's not common), of cases where there's been a problem so only 5th or 6th could be selected. It's more common from hard changes into 5th - but it's possible you could at the least weaken the syncro for the future. If you're planning on keeping the car a long time, either shift sequentially, or double de-clutch for a change like this. I'm categorically not saying your gearbox will lose a gear if you do this - but the 5th/6th gear syncros seem so far to be the weakest ones, so why tempt fate for a 'cruise' gear change?

I miss 1, sometimes 2 gears at a time, and can't see the harm as long as you rev match and don't overstress anything.
If missing gears was bad for the car, there would be a big red american warning sticker on top of the gear knob surely
