42,000 Service
Hi
My S2K will be having its 1st service in my ownership next week. It is an Oct 1999 model which was last serviced in April 2004 at 35,000. It has been serviced every 4,500 miles (6 months) with Esso Ultron fully synthetic oil, but Holdens have told me to go every year or 9 months whichever comes sooner, with fully synthetic oil. It has now done 42,000 miles.
They will be using Castrol SLX fully synthetic oil this time 5W:40W (approx

Don't let them wash it!!!!
Get a fixed menu price for the sevice and call around.
I used the Castrol Slx and was no cheaper in halfords than the dealer. actually the dealer was cheaper! I really liked that oil and will def. use again. IMO Ask them to do the diff oil and gearbox oil as well and ask them not to fill the washer bottle with fluid - rip off. Honda actually charged me for this and also told me that due to a bump in the wing that the bottle was not working and needed replacement - when asked why they charged me

RGB, the 72 month 54000 mile service is indeed a major service and I believe the plugs are changed as well.
Best phone your dealer and get a quote.
If you want to take your own oil make sure the dealer knows it's there and make sure you get the service tick sheet with the invoice.
I believe there is a copy of one on this forum somewhere.
As regards letting the dealers wash cars, it is usually part of the service so if you don't want it done ask them not to but please don't assume that the cleaners "drop the leather in a pile of grit" before they wash yours - do get pretty peeved when I see that sort of reference on here.
By the way, have a look on the thread about brake pads ref your comments - it may assist.
Don't forget to leave feedback on your dealer experience.

Again great advice and very knowledgeable.
I am sorry if I have offended or p*ssed you off with my comment regarding the wash this is not my intention but purely a combination of observations/ experiences and also experiences of others on here. I am NOT saying that the valeter placed the sponge in some git before washing it.
I myself, and it is a personal thing, would never let a dealer wash my car again. I would also be the first to suggest that I suffer from acute OCD when it comes to cleaning my cars. I have spoken to some people who love it when their car goes in for a service as they know it will be washed and vacc'd for them.
Rgb does state that this is his/her first service since taking ownership and I know nothing about him/her or his/her car. Just wanted to point it out.
Once again I am sorry
On another note rgb you will find that any products that they do use and have left over they will kindly leave for you in the boot, passenger seat for topping up in between services - a nice touch imo.
As for your brakes I had my rear discs and pads replaced at Carlise Honda and they charged

Robs, no problems as I rarely get offended etc but some seem to go OTT over things like advising against a car wash.
I appreciate the hard work that some of you put into the appearence of your cars and they look great, think I may wash my old Astra sometime before the summer - twice a year is not too bad.
By the way, I must admit I lost the plot re the comments on the discs as I was ctaching up on all the posts here today and ended up replying to it mixed in with another reply on the pad changing thread. oops sorry.
Going to bed now as working again in the morning................
Goodnight.

Reference the first post and the spark plugs - I shall check today but looking at some other paperwork I have at home here, the plugs are changed on the 63000 mile service which is the next service on from what the original poster is going to have.
I had a failry similar conversation not so long ago re the difference between 27000 and a 72000 mile service.

And on the washing cars front, at my recent service I asked them not to wash the car as it was already clean. They washed it by mistake (and apologised ) but neglected to dry it, so I went from a lovely shiny black car to one that was covered in water and sponge marks and worse than when I took it there

I shall double check this then Neil as what I pm'd you I copied from a 9000 service sheet, "normal" plugs are changed every 27000 miles, S2000 does not have "normal" plugs and the problem lies I believe with the technician not reading the service sheet correctly, unless Honda have changed the service and I am not aware of it.
Shall double check and also find the sheet in the faq - any chance posting the link?
