Default 4.77 ratio final drive and Yellow jacket speedo ca

Hi there

I'm in the processing of buying a 4.77 final drive etc and am struggling to find a company that can install the gears for maximum effect.

Is there anyone out there that has installed this final drive and what if any tips can you point my way.

Thanks in anticipation of your help.

I think the guys who installed my gear into my diff went out of business a few years ago.

4.77 is a bit extreme. Expect to be in VTEC around 80mph in 6th gear.

4.57 or 4.625 would be better (IMO the earlier one).

Be careful what you wish for/want as to the circumstance where the car will be quicker etc, shortest its necessarily better.

For example 4.77 would be quicker than a stock geared S from a 'standing start' say to xxx MPH but in other scenarios not quite so.

Have a search/research before jumping if you havent done so already.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've done a fair bit of research over on the US forums and accept that the 4.77 is indeed extreme for normal road use - some recommed the 4.57 as a better bet, but I'm not sure.

I've had the S for nigh on a month and find that its performance is inaccessible compared to my much loved MX5 turbo. The 5 speed Torsen'd MX5 was blistering fast upto say 100mph whereas the S is just beginning to stretch its legs at a similar speed. Speeds in excess of 100mph mean an instant ban so what is the point

I'll never track the car so if I can do something to shift the power band I think it will enhance the driving experience. I also rarely drive above 70mph on the otorway so top speed is not really my thing.

I just need to find a way to install the gears so any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

You could try this guy - he did mine for me 2 years ago

SP Components

I had no problems with the diff afterwards and I got good service from him. Sent the diff via courier and he returned it to me using the same.

Personally when i looked into 4.3 doesnt do much of a difference, you've been watching that video with Jboy in havent you?

4.4 or above mate IMO.

I think 4.56 is a good compromise, most have 4.625 fitted as i dont think you can get 4.57/4.56 anymore.

Actually come to think of it i cant remember if i have 4.57 or 4.56
