Default 4.57r gears a few 1000 mile on

Well its been about 1750 odd miles on since i got my gears installed. I Must say im quite impressed, the car pulls with so much more aggression and conviction.

The most noticable differences are a bit pokey down below, less down shifting, and getting slighly quicker into vtec. Shifting gears its stays highier in the revs than stock.

Theres a few newbies and guys asking me, so i thought i put this up.

IMO, 4.57r are the way forward if you want a "faster" s2000. The 1st gear in stock was too long. Granted about 7-9mph has been took off the top speed, but i never really go near those speeds to begin with.

I done alot of research in modding the S by me. The conclusion is go with 4.57r - its good for motorways, 4.44 isnt a noticable difference and 4.77 is too high.

I have a G-tech i know these are not the best most accurate devices, but im getting 1/4 miles of around 13.2 secs and 0-60 of 5.2 ish, though take these with a pinch of salt. A good baseline IMO if staying n/a and not wasting money and not spending loads is:

- A good single pipe exhaust with de cat, the only ones "i" thinkfor making power are spoon, j's and aj racing - t1r.
- gears 4.57r
- snorkle - just good for kangerooing
- ricks or j's manifold, berks look promising

My 10 pence hope this is usefull to people, especially the newbies

A changed final drive is good for those who don't live on the motorway

The quarter probably won't be that far out. I had basically the same mods without the gears and manged 13.75. I'd guess you'd still be in 4th gear crossing the line (as with stock) but with each gear pulling harder I'd fancy to knock near 0.5 off my time.

- I think the Amuse single exit should be on that list ...

- Real men go for 4.625 (downside is you hit VTEC at 100mph in 6th )

- CAI is better than a snorkle. Mugen or J's are probably 2 of the best.

- Also Mugen for better mid range Spoon for more top end.

Apart from the last one, i found after trolling through dynos and talkin to the yanks j's and ricks are better than mugen and spoon, although i like spoons idea of matching the characistics of the S high revving nature.

The Ricks is almost an identical copy of the Mugen and I can remember the initial dyno comparisons being very similar.

The Ricks manifold costs a fraction of the price of the Mugen one so it is much better value for money.

Also, IIRC to get the best out of the J's manifold you also need the J's ECU.

Id agree with you just these g tech are not the most accurate devices, Go on you know you want gears now!
Not really - with over 300hp my Subaru has little need for shorter ratio's. If I still had the S2000 I might agree

How much does it cost for one of these sets, is it difficult to install, how does it affect warrantees etc and does it place any additional stress on other parts?
