Default 235/40/17 or 245/40/17?

Hi Guys,

Have a problem with my S2k where it's running a set of 17x9 Enkei RPF1's on the rear (fronts are 17x8 with a 215/45/17) with the rear having 255/40/17 tyres

Arches look like they were pikey rolled (read forced back on themselves with a crowbar or something used as a crow bar) cracking paint and making them rust.

Im in the process of getting a bodyshop to sort the sills and arches for me but they're not happy to do the work unless i make sure the wheels dont foul at all first.

Can i get away with a 245/40/17 or will i need to go 235/40/17? (Im guessing you need to know the offset but unfortunately unless i can find out from the outside i cant check this until sunday

Pics as it is at the moment;

Cheers,
Alex

Couple more pics, might help someone guess the offset heh, almost tempting to put my RX7 wheels on it (225/45/16 iirc) while its in for repair and then worry about making wheels fit after its fixed, but garage wont fix it with current wheel/tyre combo atm

Hello buddy. The ET is probably between 45-50 on your rears as they dont stick out much.
TBH Id go for a 235 rear. I have 235 on my rear 17"x9 +38 on rears.
You'd get away with a 245 though!

Your car is perhaps too low at the back - any idea what the distance from centre of the wheel to the fender is? The handling wont be ideal as it is.

Sort out the ride height, get it aligned and go from there.

255/40 should be ideal for those rims although 245/40 should work.

I've had the alignment checked and toe fixed, castor was approx in line with what i read on here for a fast road setup, and camber was up at around 3.5 iirc though while the wheels were scrubbing the guy honestly said to me he didnt see the point of fully adjusting it as the cambers probably saving them a fair bit as it is.

it's on Bilstein coilovers and tbh i've seen alot lower around;

(Uneven ground makes cars look lower but this is one i've taken)

and these two were taken by previous owner so cant comment on if thats exactly height im at, certainly looks about right though;

Must admit i'm leaning towards a 235/40/17, shouldnt be too detrimental to handling as the front runs 215/45/17 (my RX7 ran 235/45/17 and 255/40/17 on 8's and 9's)

Also not very keen on raising the car too much as if anything i was thinking about lowering the front

Will 245 increase the clearance enough? Dont want to buy 245's and then find i need 235's as 245's dont quite cut it (buying new as cant be bothered with part worns, will sell my 255's to help a little with cost though), i'm assuming looking at other peoples fitments that my Enkei's are +45 offset if that helps at all?

Quick Reply: 235/40/17 or 245/40/17?
