I have been keeping a very close eye on the sales of s2000 since July, as I plan on buying one early next year for my birthday, but, although forums like this are a fabulous wealth of information and help, and I truly am thankful for the help and advise I have got from this form.
I also think forums are the wrong place to ask for advice on prices on cars, as I feel the people who have a car already are obviously biased to their car, cannot fault that,But, reading some of the for sale threads and the comments of too cheap, it must be dodgy for that price etc,is where I tend to disagree with the owners i'm afraid.
There are cars for sale on this forum which has been for sale some since July August, and they don't look tatty, are still being bumped, this is telling me a prospective buyer and not an owner that these cars are over priced,if they were cheap they would have sold, and yet they are still there, the second hand S2000 market is for a buyer, looking great, as the prices are falling through the floor.
My 02 I would give it a look,an s2000 is in a minority of purchases for many hard up people in the uk at the moment, and the other people with disposable income, probably younger will probably find them hard to insure,so don't write it off, it's the sign of the times, and these cars will only ever, if ever hold their prices in 20 years time, like classic mk1 escorts and minis.

quite right

the owners with cars that aren't selling should consider dropping the price by £100 a day

they'll all sell within a month or so

for what they are worth

2002. 80k Winter. 5k would be average, he might just want a quick sale in which case its realistically priced.

Without a hard top, i think my 72k 02 plate with big wad of history, in excellent condition and evidence of being looked after, is worth £6k. There's no chance I would let mine go for any less, because its worth that even in Autumn/ Winter. If I was selling, the buyer is getting a "good" car using the correct oil, correct tyres and the bodywork is mint. My TCT had rattle until i changed the oil, and has dissapeared completely.
Berlina is a colour in great demand, it looks one of the best when polished up but one of the worst to keep clean!
I think some selling on here since July, that cannot shift, are massively overpriced and emotive pricing is evident. especially if its wearing the wrong tyres too All in my opinion of course....

I've also had my eye on this one

http://www.pistonhea...les/2367861.htm

Been advertised on all the major websites for aaaaaaaages... Which isn't really a good sign!

2000 model, ss with black int, very low miles for age & FSH. Looks tidy, but being sold cheap due to engine noise when idling. Obviously I haven't heard the noise myself, but likely to be TCT??

From what I've read, this is a relatively simple fix. Tensioner needs extracting, certain parts need sandblasting then refit. But if this is indeed the case, it begs the obvious question, why haven't they done it already?? If the noise isn't TCT, perhaps it's indicating a problem with the valves which I assume is a potentially expensive job...

£4500 for a tidy MY2000 with low miles. As before, probably too good to be true!

I have listened to this engine first hand for another prospective buyer...STAY AWAY! It sounds like a bag of spanners, and is 100% definitely not TCT related

As you've said some of the cars on here have been for sale for months with no realistic price drops. I know it's hard sometimes to face up just how little your pride and joy is worth but unfortunately the values at the moment will only be going one way!
