2 month old TCT playing up
#11
Shizzle Jon, sorry to hear your still having predicament with this issue.
Before you go down the chain guide route, how recently was your (good quality btw!) castrol oil changed? And is it worth checking the new tct worm gear for wear. I know two months is very soon, but there is no preset figure for how fast they wear, there could be a manufacturing defect from the factory...

Tango, oil probably does need a change, it was done about 4000 miles ago. Will change it this weekend and see if that helps.
I dont really wanna take the new one out, just over the whole thing really. Also, doubt its a defect since sandblasting my previous one would only last a couple of days.
Feel like changing a cam chain ?

I'll do it if you like.
Seriously though, before you get bent over by Honda for bits, i'd try to at least get a second opinion.
Imagine how you'd feel if we stripped down the front casing and found everything was in good working order.....
Want me to have a listen?

Im pretty certain its the tct, its not loud as of yet, but on light revs you can hear the start of my nemesis.
Im even considering replacing the whole engine and gearbox !! That way, i get a newer everything. although you never know what you've bought until its in the car.

How long ago did you do an oil change?
As oil gets old, it breaks down and it's viscosity therefore changes. As the TCT is operated with oil pressure, it will be affected (and does on mine) and will cease to push the piston enough, and it won't apply enough pressure to the Timing Chain.

before shelling out hundreds of pounds try getting the worm gear sandblasted. I know its new but this happend to me after fitting a new one off HTG, I was using mobil 1 at the time and I know that the oil was probably at fault but dont rule out the TCT.
If you dont have access to a sandblaster you can sand it down yourself. I also appreciate that your engine has a high mileage but I would want to try that before stripping the engine.
