Funny how the ex/bikers seem to have little difficulty with the car.
I agree totally.

After riding a bike you understand about grip and balance.
You can read the road better, more aware of white lines, manhole covers, oil on the road and all the tossers who don't see you coming.
I learnt to drive on a bike, came off it many times until I learnt to drive smoothly and to treat every other driver on the road as someone who was out to get me!

Jackie Stewart wrote a book about high performance driving. Fantastic book. All about driving smoothly.
He explained that every action in a car should be done in such a way as to keep the car neutral.
Brakes should not be jabbed so that the suspension bottoms, but gently, harder, harder and then gently off, keeping the suspension working, not on the stops.
Same with the throttle!

A lot of people mention getting into trouble on the power, but have you ever had any problems on the overrun due to the high compression?

I was driving down some narrow lanes the other week which were covered in mud and also a bit icey. As I was slowing down into corners on the overrun (not on the brakes) the rear wheels kept locking and throwing the car sideways. It was an absolute nightmare. I was only doing about 30 mph so could gather slides, but it would have been a different story at higher speeds.

Scooby, Ive had this once or twice, lifted off too quickly I assume - too sudden a transition from acceleration to nothing on the right foot I guess.

I think this is the product of a light flywheel, the revs drop away more quickly than in conventional cars meaning that the engine and road speeds become very unequal very quickly.

Of course the upside to that is the fantastically revvy engine we have, so what you gain on the swings, you lose on the roundabouts.....

i drove a rally escrote cossie and that locked all 4 wheels on overrun.. instructor said just be less snappy with the clutch so i was and hey ho.. problem solved.

its was a bit more pokey than my Calibra
