Is it just me or does anyone else struggle to understand this fixation with spending half your life cleaning the car. To me its a chore and whilst I agree the car looks great (and of course goes better!) when clean, it gets grubby just by standing still, so an hour a fortnight is all it gets...

Doing this makes the car easier to keep clean - i do mine like this twice a year and over the winter, it just gets a basic jetwash once a week to keep the crap off it - first proper wash, polish and wax in the spring sees it come right back up

Keith nothing wrong with the red pads I just find them too firm and so don't hold the contours of the car so well. They also seem to wear quickly so I only really keep a few for special cases. My favorite pads are the yellow ones they wear well and are soft enough to hug things nicely. Biggest problem with dual action is they are too gentle and therefore safe, that's fine on an S which is pretty soft paint but on some of the harder paints its just bloody hard work. I found I was using pretty aggressive compounds that would break down easily once the speed was turned up to 4. Usually a slow wet (spritz with water to keep lubed and stop drying out so the abrasives don't break down too quickly) cut at around 2 then once paste is starting to go translucent up to 4 to polish off.
Little secret, washing cars is what puts the swirls in them, so its better to have a non stick paint that stays cleaner for longer.
