1999 84K Honda......can of worms?
Hi chaps,
Joined up here back in 2005 when I was going get an S2000, and after 4 years of Elise ownership I'm back!
Just wanted opinions on higher mileage cars. Going to look at a car tomorrow at a local dealer. It's a '99 'V', got 84K on the clock, but apparently has a full Honda history which would suggest caring owners. The car looks tidy on the website, slight scuffing on the drivers seat etc as to be expected.
It's up for

If it has truely been looked after, I don't think you'll have an issue.
You seem genned up on the reoccurring problems the S has so you know what to look for
Suspension will be past its best so lowering springs should be fitted some fresher dampers.
Apart from that - buy with your head, not your heart (A lot easier said than done) and you will be good to go

You'll know If its good or not when you go to see it. Mines a V/99 and when I bought mine I went to look at 2 other S's which were 3 years newer, but were battered compared to mine.

My car has done 81k and the dampers seem fine to me, although it's not as old as the one you are looking at. There will be no need to replace them immediately, but certainly something for the future...

I regulary checked mine over the years, when i first bought the car they were fine (~70k) after around 100odd k miles they started to get lazy.
I swapped mine out about 6month ago for nearly new ones.

Well, I'm picking up a 47K mile car tomorrow from a private seller, so I went completely the other way!
The car is black with red leather seats and door cards, absolutely immaculate. It comes with a hardtop (which I'll probably sell because it'll never be on), and later style 17's with nearly new Potenza's.
My only plans now are a wheel re-furb in satin black and some mesh grills.
I REALLY miss my Elise Sport 160, but I already know that the S will more than make up for it.
