Drake and Fletcher Honda can get hold of these tyres as I spoke to them yesterday about getting all four replaced for my S2000. Also, my rears are not standard S2000 size (255/35/18) and they reckoned they could get the RE050 MZ tyres - though I'm not too sure if they are made just for the S2000.

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy MZ tyres for 'non-standard' S2000 wheels?

I'd kill to have Toyo on the back now though.

S2000 specific tyre in non-S2000 sizes? I think that shows how much you can trust what Honda dealers say.

Now we've established that Drake and Fletcher offer barmy advice on tyres (and oil) and I can't have RE050 MZ tyres on the car rears because of my wheel size, then that leaves me with the daunting task of choosing other tyres...

I can either get (all four tyres need changing):

Bridgestone RE050 (without the 'MZ' bit on the rears, but with 'MZ' on the front)
Goodyear F1 GSD3
Toyo T1-R

The Goodyears have good reviews I've been reading and, of course, MB rates the Toyos so that's an option too.

Currently there are RE040s on the back and Toyo T1-S on the front...

...decisions! Bloody hell, my Punto is so easy in comparison - I just whack P6000s on it. End.

Evo magazine group tyre test. A brief summary...

The tyres were all 17" 225/45 R17 and fitted to a VW Golf GTI. The tyres involved were: 1. Bridgestone Potenza RE050-A ?123 2. Continental contisport-contact 3 ?125 3. Dunlop Sport Maxx ?117 4. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric ?116 5. Kumho Ecsta STP KU31 ?89 6. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ?133 7. Pirelli Pzero Nero ?130 8. Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta ?100 9. Yokohoma S.Drive ?106 (Avon declined to take part as it is due to launch a new tyre and Toyo wanted to take part but couldn't supply a tyre in time).

Taking place at the new Bridgestone European Proving ground near Rome and consisted of a Wet handling test (Lap times-Goodyear, Lateral G-Goodyear, and Subjective-Vredestein), Aqua-planing (Straight line-Dunlop, and Cornering-Vredestein), Braking (Wet braking-Goodyear, Dry braking-Michelin, and Resistance-Yokohama), Dry handling (Lap times-Goodyear, Lateral G-Goodyear, and Subjective-Goodyear) and a Road route (subjective-Vredestein).

The results were as follows:
1. Goodyear 96.4
2. Vredestein 95.3
3. Continental 93.5
4. Bridgestone 92.7
5. Michelin 92.4
6. Pirelli 92.0
7. Kumho 88.7
8. Dunlop 86.0
9. Yokohama 82.0

An interesting note to the test was an 'is bigger better' surprise. For familiarisation laps of the wet circuit they used a GTI Anniversay on 18" rims with the Bridgestones fitted and it lapped 2.5 secs slower than it's 17" counterparts.....

No, same tread pattern different compound, If like me have experienced the misfortune of an S with different compounds on the same axel, ie BZ one side and MZ on the other, you would apreciate just how much difference there is. so mixing frount to back, well let just say it does not get my vote

I'm sure there are many RE050 MZs in circulation even if they have stopped manufacturing them. I had a set of fronts fitted this Monday.
