Thumbs down 17" Bridgestone Tyres - Updated 20.2.08

Hi Folks,

Well I'm looking at getting 4x brand new tyres in 17" for some new rims I have received.

Went to FAQ and read what I should ask the tyre trader for, give them a call, I then had a chat to them about tyres and the fact some traders/dealers have been fitting the wrong tyres (There is a thread on here somewhere about it).

So they took all the details from me, and went away to have a look

They have phoned me back to telling me the fronts E050MZ 215/45/R17 87W have been discontinued - (Rears are ok still)

So I thought hhmm lets check, So I phoned the lovely Bridgestone office, who have politely informed me yes they have discontinued them.

I had a very interesting conversation with the chap, and he also told me, they don't actually make a tyre purely for the S2000 any more, it's now just a general tyre "recomended" for the S2000 and with this they also recommend replacing in pairs on the same axle.

I have requested a letter from them. to confirm the above and what they now recommend.............. Watch this space

Bridgestone Email to confirm

MOULDING Peter [Peter.MOULDING@bridgestone.eu]

Good afternoon Colin,

Apologies for the delay in reply.

In response to your enquiry regarding the fitment for Honda S2000: The original fitment on the car was 215/45 R17 RE050 87W MZ and 245/40 R17 RE050 87W MZ. As you noted, the front tyre has been discontinued. However the rear tyre is still in production.

On the front tyre, I would recommend fitting the 215/45 R17 RE050 87W Alfa Romeo fitment. This has the advantage of being the same pattern as the original S2000 fitment and you should not notice any difference between the two tyres.

On the phone I mentioned the RE050A fitment, but, as the rear S2000 fitment is still being produced, I would recommend continuing to fit RE050.

I hope this helps

Best regards

Pete

Oohh bugger, is all I can say

Cheers
Kiwi

Good - they are rubbish anyway

On a more serious note, that's quote annoying. I didn't think the MZ had been out that long? Wonder why...?

At the chance of making myself look like a tit...

Don't know if you've made a typo but they are are RE050 not E050

I'm going to be due for four tyres this summer, not sure what to get now

Redun, E050MZ and RE050 are both valid E050MZ is the specific tyre and RE050 is the product line.

Well I've just ordered a set, so we'll see. I think it's fair to assume that if they're discontinued, both the fronts and rears are discontinued.

**** knows what tyres I'm going to need. I need to replace my rears asap so I'll stick with RE050's then in a few months when people have tested other tyres...

You on 17" now then Dembo?

Kiwi said BS were continuing the rears.

Chilled - I like the sound of the Toyo R1R but think you prefer a soley track based tyre?

Nearly. Just taken them to the refurbers.

So what tyres come with a new S2000 now?
RE070 from the CR? Wishful thinking there. No doubt the generic RE050.
