Yes, maybe they were driving irresponsibly. But since they caused no damage or distress to anyone, how can you punish them for what might of happened?
what do you think about the penalties for possession of kiddie $$$$$$?

they are harsh and the culprit may have never left their home, let alone molested a child

Ok, an extreme example to illustrate:

If I go into a shopping centre with a gun and start firing shots in random directions but don't actually hit anyone should I be let off?

I think opinions on this just come down to peoples' perception of how dangerous things are, unfortunately a lot of young car 'enthusiasts' think they're driving gods because they've had a few fast cars and have read a bit about understeer and oversteer in Evo.

I've only recently started to understand just how quickly and easily things can go wrong because I've being doing a fair bit of playing on tracks and airfields, and cringe at some of the things I used to think of as safe.

The guy f**ked up and paid the price and hopefully won't do it again.

there are all sorts of laws and regulations that prevent people from doing stuff that 'might' cause them or others harm.

At the end of the day the police saw fit to do this guy for racing. Not dangerous driving, not speeding not driving without due care and attention. We don't know the facts about how he was driving so for blatent racing i don't automatically assume the 1 year ban is unfair.

We don't really know what he was up to when he was caught. He could have been doing anything from trying to keep up with someone at the light (or someone keep up with him) to a full-on Need for Speed street style race. So we don;t really know if the punishment fits the crime. For all we know a 12 month ban might be considered getting off lightly depending on what he was actually doing.

Kiddie $$$$$$ is nasty and is wrong becuase it is actually exploiting kids. If you own kiddie $$$$$$ you are suggesting that you would like to molest kids. If I race on the motorway it suggest that I want to have some fun, not that I want to kill someone. If it does suggest that, then perhaps they should ban motor racing on TV.

*EDIT* Yes, if i'm doing it on anything other than a quiet road then I would deserve to be shot. But lets face it, rep man could do 50mph past a school a 3pm and get a

Yes but they are actually having a direct effect on someone else. Plus, even if you do go to a Vietnam track day, its still illegal.
