12/20 Topgear S2000 Review
#11
Most media observers don't get the S2000 because it is unique & cannot be pigeon-holed.
Of course it's out of date and out of it's time even.
Out of date because in a fashion led world the design is old....
It's cramped.
There is no steering wheel adjustment.
No heated seats & their adjustment is manual.
A single slot CD.
No cruise option.
No MP3/Ipod thingy or whatever the latest gadget is.
No Sat. Nav.
The roof looks untidy & unfinished when folded.
The hood cover is just too silly and cumbersome for words.
It doesn't make a sporty sound.
Out of time because nearly every car is front wheel drive and there's an entire generation who have never driven a 'proper' rear wheel driven sports car.
It's not perceived by the poseurs as an 'aspirational' brand.
Like imature teenagers too many cower under peer group pressure and buy the brand that is socially acceptable, and we all know what cars they are.
'Other' brands are so easy to drive, to some eyes are prettier & even soppy air-head girls can manage them.
It is for the above reasons that the S2000 is so special and appeals to the thinking confident individual who has the inteligence ability and confidence to make their own minds up.. And for the average journalist that is far beyond their ken to comprehend.
And I'm glad, because I don't want the world to rush out and buy an S2000. Why that would make it so awfully common.
I greatly enjoy the occasional S2000 sighting whilst hoardes of 'other' sports cars don't get a second glance.

It was as if I couldn't remember typing it - then I realised I didn't!
