Been watching all these clutch threads with some interest. I get a bit of clutch buzz on overrun between 2000 and 4000 rpm. To be honest, it's not a ballbreaker, but as my MY02 is two months away from its third birthday (although I have warranty cover through until July 05), I have thought it would be nice to go into year 4 with a new clutch.

However, did I not read on one of these threads that someone had had their clutch done with less than brilliant results? It's a pretty major item and I guess if it's done badly, you could end up with more problems than a mildly irritating buzz.

Right now I'm thinking that when I put it in for its 27,000 mile service, I'll mention the clutch buzz and see if the stealer bites ...

PS. Remind me again; do MY02s have the 54 or 55 clutch? Is the problem confined to the 54 (if yes, why do I get an occasional buzz) or does the 55 have similar issues?

They all - 055 clutch included - buzz / vibrate under load from 4000ish down to 2000ish. But the 054 - when hot - was occasionally VERY noisey.. if you heard it you would think that something was seriously seriously wrong, even though it isn't.

If you can get someone else to listen to it, they can tell you if it's just a normal noise, or actually a replacement candidate.

ahh, this is probably the case with mine.

It was very noisy once on the way to Le Mans last year, probably due to the 'spirited' driving!!

how can i check i've got a 055 clutch?

Take it out and read the part number?

I would expect Honda could tell you the VIN range of cars with the 054 fitted. But even though they could, I doubt they would.. If you call them up they will probably either give you a vague answer (stopped in June 2001 for example) or specific info on your car.

There is a thread all about the clutches somewhere on here - Turtle/Brian - provided quite a bit of info a the time, including the production dates IIRC...

Any one know the labour costs to change the plates? Also are the plates very heavy? Reason I ask is I'm thinking about getting the 55 plate from the US.

I think you have to buy a kit rather than just the plate... if you battle with the search engine, you will find...

My my01 had the 054 clutch in when I brought it, but honda swapped it for the 055, to be honest I think it's worth doing even if you dont feel its a problem..

My car came back feeling like a new car. The gear change was superb after the new clutch was put in.

Mine did too, but I think thats more down to the change of fluid than the clutch changes..
