Default 054 clutch

Just took my00 (36k) to the stealers and got one of the tecs to come out for a drive so I could let him hear the vibration, anyway he listened and said " yep thats the one" and I said has honda recognized the prob, he said yea and that quite a few people have has it replaced, he continued to say that there was nothing wrong with the 054 clutch itself as its a self adjusting clutch, the fault lies with the pressure plate, he said as the clutch adjusts the pressure plate doesn't, which is why you get the vibration (pressure plate and bearing ass) and to my delight he then smiled and said he'll have a word with the manager and get the parts ordered, I am now waiting for the stealers to get in touch to let me know if its going to be sorted, so far it sounds like it will be, i'll let whoever wants to know the out come, but the way he spoke, honda has recognized the problem.....fingers crossed....

Honda has recognised the problem for quite a while now - the problem is usually that they still won't cover it if the car is out of warranty. If you've mananged to persuade them to do it outside the three year warranty, that's a result......

The way that most people on here have spoke, honda sounded like that they were trying not to identify the problem as their own fault an donly replacing the 054 clutch if the car was under the 3 year warranty, i'm hoping that it will go along the same lines as the alloy wheel problem, with or without warranty. I am lucky to have an extended warranty with I hope will allow me to have the work undertaken. I will let you know on the result...!

i get a vibration when deaccelerating from 4000 through 3000 rpm. Is this clutch related?

If so, i'll need to raise with Maidenhead Honda at my 27k service next Thursday.

Sounds like it....it's in that rev range that it's most noticable, sort of a harsh buzzing noise.

How loud are peoples buzz and how much does it make their car vibrate? Mine is quite load and I can feel slight vibrations coming through the pedals in the rev range mention above. Does this sound like clutch buzz or something else?

That sounds similar to what I was experiencing before mine was changed. I was under the impression that MY02s didn't suffer from this though

Yes to all of the above, clutch vibration in the 2000-4000rev range when you are de-accelerating is normally the fault which is present with the earlyer model s2000 as they have the 054 clutch fitted, honda upgraded these to the 055 model on later cars. You should be able to feel vibration through the pedal, you can clarify this when you are de-accelerating and the vibrating noise (buzz) is present, dip the clutch pedal and the buzz should go away. Many people are finding this fault and should make it an issue with honda as honda have recognized the problem behind the scenes, its just getting them to admit it and replace the part for free. It took long enough with the alloy wheel corrosion problem and if everyone who has the problem with the 054 clutch prob addresses it, i'm sure that will give everyone a fighting chance. I'm just waiting on a phone call from honda.....fingers x and will let you know the outcome....

Its normally the my00-my02 which has the problem, so i've been told.

I thought that the 055 clutch was standard from 51 onwards...

If so, the vibration could be the heatshield.
