Does anyone here know whether 04-onwards oval exhaust tips are polished stainless steel or chromed ordinary steel??

I would say chrome steel but a guess, as they appear soft.
Not definative, but try and stick a magnet to them.

Chrome steel will hold well, ferritic stainless might also but not very well.

Stainless, but unfortunately the nut that is spotwelded to them for mounting isn't.

If you haven't done it already replace the bolt with a S/S allen bolt covered in coppergrease or it will soon be rust welded together
