Default 04 first time VTEC

Just reached 650 miles so VTEC'd for first time to approx 6500 rpm, car a felt a bit resistant and sluggish

So visited dealer, and asked him to road test .

He took me out and VTEC'd to 8000 rpm, and said he always advises that from this point it was perfectly safe to VTEC up to 8000 and to progress to 9000 after 1000 miles.

He said that unless the car is driven hard at this point overall performance could suffer, and that it was nonsense to progressively increase from 6000 to 8000 in 100 mile increments.

He has worked on S2000 's for more than 2 years. and is the chief road tester for the dealer.

Should i follow his advice, or VTEC progressively

Any comments

On my 02, I just got to 650 miles and then hammered it from then on all the way up to 9K for the next 34000 miles until I traded in on my 04. Now I've got 300 miles to go, then I will do exactly the same again.

I was driving the 04 and the engine in the early days was reluctant to vtec but after another 400 miles it slowly started opening more easily. Even my last car got better after 8000 miles and even better still after 17000.

Why would it be in the owners manual if it wasn't right? Or am I being stupid?

MY02 S2000 was far more apparent when VTEC cut in, 04 is more linear, definitely very different to 02, however my past car was at 20k miles, so difficult to compare.

Will let you know at about 1k

I think the VTEC will be different as engine loosens up.

I'd VTEC away, IIRC my manual said 600 miles.
I didn't do any increments but VTECed now and then for a further 200 miles or so, and then at will

Interesting about being more linear in the 04, wonder if other 04 owners find this?
