[Help] Upgrading the tunes
Hi,
I have had my S2k for about 1 month now and am now considering upgrade the ICE. My car currently has the standard head unit and speakers which are crap after about 40 mph.
Can anyone recommend what steps to take (preferably from personal experience) i.e. should I keep the standard head unit (to retain the audio control on the dash) and simply uprade the speakers and add an amp or is the head unit a majorly limited factor which should be dumped at the expense of the remote control.
I popped into Sextons in Reading today and they said there was no point in adding rear speakers and recommended 2 new front speakers and a new amp which came to around

Without a doubt your best option is to get rear speaker to add a much more "surround" effect to your cabin. In doing this you can also get more volume from buying some good speakers.
Lucid, a sponsor on the site, generally has the best deals. You could get two rear speakers custom cut into new panels (v easy to fit the panel) and some upgraded fronts for a very good price. There are plenty of people who have done this four speaker deal recently so there will be more responses to that i'd imagine.
After that is done you can think about adding a Headunit, an amp and maybe a sub (i'd say in that order).....
lucid's site
Happy upgrading!!

B*llox.
IMO, door speakers first, then fit Lucids rears.
I have done this and am more than happy with my ICE without upgrading head unit or installing an amp.

Yeah, as everyone says, Lucids rear panels are an excellent way to go. I have upgraded to decent fronts, and reasonable rears and am really happy with the way the sound now fills the cabin rather than only coming from your feet. I reckon I spent

BTW: Sextons hardware is very very overpriced when compared to mail order or some of the big centralised ICE centres. IMO their fitting is all that great either - but then that would change with every outlet so that could be a bit of a generalisation!

Much dittoing!!!! I had the 'no point putting speakers back
there' line from a couple of car audio shops. And to be fair,
because we're like that here! - I was pretty sceptical about the
benifits. I chose to do the install myself (see my sig. for details
of Polk components) which must mean it is pretty damned
straight forward. However, if you want a high quality 'plug and
play option' - Lucid offers some fantastic products. The results
really do have to be heard to be believed!
Re. other stuff - the OEM door speakers just have to go - asyou
have sussed out, they are crap (someone in the US said they
are $2.50 speakers!!!!) ! I have Audio diamond co-ax's in the
doors - I like them lots! With regard to the head unit - if you
want to retain the on-dash audio controls - Alpine is the path of
least resistance - Alpine produce an interface which just plugs
into the majority of their head units and away you go. I guess
all my stuff (2 sets speakers, head unit, interface and cd
autochanger)cost about

Rodney,
Do not understand how they can say that rears would not make a difference????
I have left the headunit the same, all I did was change my front speakers and add rear speakers and the difference is amazing.
I ordered the rear panels from Lucid along with the Harness which makes it all very easy.
You are more than welcome to have a listen to see what you think, the actual models of speakers I used are in my sig below, send me a PM and we can meet up
