This looks great fun, I won't be able to make it though as it's Sally's birthday BBQ on the Saturday.

Looks like there might be some good attendance here....

Hotel Booked for Friday night - Claydon Country House Hotel - seems to have some reasonable rates for a 4*.
Anyone else planning on staying nearby Friday evening ?

S2k_Nut - you sure you wanna drive from Oxford to Ipswich to be there for 09:30 - its a bit of a trek. 2-3 hours according to Google maps.
Ah you may be right about that Andy, so ... I will find somewhere to stay on the Friday night in Ipswich, and I will probably run with you all until Oxford, and perhaps a bit beyond but then drive back to Oxford and stay in a hotel there for the Saturday night, and head back home on Sunday ... would that be doable Rob, if so you can put me down as a definite, thanks

MQ will be great to see and drive with you again, and Scot is going too

The Crown and Castle in Orford is ok but expensive with some odd house rules, check out comments on Trip Advisor regarding signs etc , food is excellent. Jamie sent some of the 15 there for training.

Just informed by our Australian House Guests that the Jolly Sailor should be known as the Not So Jolly Sailor, they were distinctly underwhelmed, but fairly cheap.

There are a number of nice Hotels In Aldborough, The Brunendel and The Wentworth, trouble with the Wentworth is its always a 2 night stay at weekends.

I'm not sure if you're gettiing confused here. The route takes us to Orford (not Oxford). Oxford would be a long drive there and back.
Orford is a very nice place near Ipswich on the coast with a castle and some pubs......

Rob - hope its not me who's getting confused !

ah that makes a lot more sense .... well then, we will stay in Ipswich on the Friday night, do the run with you all on Saturday, then drive to Oxford (that is a good drive however) and stay there for a night and drive around it on Sunday before heading home, thanks for the clarification Andy ..

I will give it some further thought ....

My lasting memory of Aldborough is the freezing wind blowing in off the north sea....but it may have been around xmas time so to be expected I guess.
Isnt it a bit further to the north though, across the border into Norfolk ?

It's Aldeburgh, it is in Suffolk and it is lovely in the summer, quite genteel in a slightly wild sort of way.

Photo opportunity for us by the controversial Scallop.
