I can't believe that the rears have worn more than the fronts I can't even see the brake pads on the fronts without taking the wheels off so I'm sure they are nearly worn out completely.

The thing is I was really hoping to learn how to change brake pads myself when they required changing. I might not be able to do so.

Rich - how have your Ferodos been? worthwhile change? If so I might take you up on your offer, at least I'd then learn how to change them. A few drinks your way for sure.

Unless someone in the south west is willing to teach me, then I could get it done before. Again, I don't expect it for free, I just really wanted to learn.

I've been very impressed with my ferodo's. I keep harping on about them because they have been very good on the track compared to the porterfields R4S that i had on there before, and a big improvement over stock.

They work fine from cold so are fine for everyday driving. They are a bit harder on discs though than standard so you will have to replace your discs a bit sooner.

I'll be bringing tools- trolley jack, spanners etc as i may have to change my own fronts on the day. I'll happily show you what to do and give you a hand.

Alternatively, if you're popping up to see your family before the the trackday, i'd happily help you do them then to minimise your loss of track time.

It really doesn't take long. i can do all 4 corners in less than an hour on my own with just the one trolley jack. If we can get another trolley jack and couple of people to help with getting wheels off etc, we'll do it in half the time.

Like this...?

That was after Bedford last year IIRC. I had another set just like them after Donington.
Dembo, what pads were they?

How nosey are they?

The only thing I did not like about the R4Ss was the squealing.

They're ex-Red Stuffs.

I like them, but I might think about trying out a set of Ferodos next.

They are not at all nosey. The mind their own business and let me get one with whatever i want

I presume you mean noisy.

I currently have proterfield rears and ferodo fronts with spoon drilled discs on the front and oems on the rear.

Rears squeal, fronts are as quiet as oems. I've actually had the rear pads out a couple of times to regrease the shims but can't make them permenantly quiet.

What life are you getting out of them?

The reason i ask is they look to me like they've not bedded in and have blown apart in places.

You may be right. I remember being very suprised that I killed that set that day at Bedford. I can't remember how old they were, but I thought they had a lot more life than that.

The next set lasted me several thousand miles, a couple of days at The Ring, Japfest and Trax track sessions, and Donington.

The redstuffs work straight out of the box, so I'm never sure if bedding in is an issue or not.

I suspect the probably do. The need to get hot and allowed to cool to cook off all the resins that hold the pads together. If you don't that, then the resins gas off quickly and the pad turns to dust.

The ferodo's have a very specific bedding in procedure.
