Still more people going ALL the way up to Arran for a meet

Come on folks, the ideal opportunity to try out a track (at your own pace) with like minded people who love their cars.

A quick question about brakes. Since new, the brake pads haven't been changed on my car. I have done a 1st lotus day and the Bedford trackday last year. At my last service about a month ago, I was told my brake pads are down to 50% at the front and 30% at the rear.

Looking at my pads today, I can see the rears but can't see the fronts, well not without taking the wheels off.

I'm sure the advice will be to change the pads before the trackday but thought I'd see what you guys think. If so, I should try and get that sorted asap.

I'd take new pads with you and change them once your old ones go, at the trackday. How many miles have they done? Sounds like a lot!

I'd change the rears. a) they're closer to needing it, and b) rears are harder to do. Take some fronts with you, but they're pretty easy to change.

Very good thinking - those rear pistons are buggers!

I would definitely take a spare set at least.

It will depend on how hard you are on the brakes, but I had about 50% of my R4Ss left before the Donington track day. At the end of the day they looked like this!

Agree with AE that you must have done a lot of miles and it's also weird that your rears are more worn that your front. Do you reverse quickly?

That was after Bedford last year IIRC. I had another set just like them after Donington.

If your going to change to oem pads, not uprated trackday style pads, don't change them on the day. If you take brand new pads out on the track and use the hard on a trackday, and rockingham is a big brakes circuit, they will overheat and blow apart because you won't have given them a chance for the binding resins to gas off.

I put new rear pads on just before a day at bruntingthorpe. The rear pads literally turned to dust a fell apart. They wore down to nothing in the day, and when i took them off, they had big craters in them where they'd fallen apart and you could litterally break them up with your fingernail. I had to finish the day early but luckily on had 5 miles to drive home. You've got to get back to Plymouth haven't you mirren?

Get them changed a good week or so before the day so that you can bed them in properly, or buy Ferodo DS2500 and then you can change them on the day. I'll happily help and if we can get another pair of hands and two jacks, we can have all 4 corners done in 30 mins.

I put some OEMs in after Donington in November and it looks like I'll need new before Rockingham.
