Send the details out the afternoon before.
I have tomtom and gps routes planned out, as well as text directions for each waypoint, and even a video of the route.
We used to tkae a laptop, and peopel woudl only get directions when they turned up bunged onto there sat nav.
If peopel only know the starting location then everyone has to meet up, and unwanted guests can be gently persuaded to leave with a breaker bar 9 joke )
then everyone gets the plan, and its follow the leader from there
Only people with advanced knowledge should be.
Organisor, test runners, cameramen, police, puppy
