Woohoo, my old car has reached the dizzy heights of a Pistonheads forum (picture not comments).

The most impressive thing about our trip was that we were a fair sized group that by and large enjoyed the experience together, both on and off track.

I made a point of not entering weeing contests and did almost all of my laps alongside another S or two. I was not interested in best times/laps etc, just spending a weekend learning a great circuit.

It looks like it will be the same again as 1) the hard drive in my brain has dumped its contrents 2) the NSX understeers much more than I expected and I think this will make the circuit feel totally different.

Mid engine cars understeer a bit due to rearward weight distribution, so can require a little assistance to get it to turn in. However once that initial bite is had, the lower polar moment of inertia means you'll turn better that most.

The cardinal rule for all the newbies:

If someone has appeared in your mirrors - and wasn't there a minute ago - then he's faster than you. Let him past!

Regardless of whether its a shagged out old Chevette, a tired looking Mini or a pimped up BMW - he is quicker than you, so move over!

If you don't let him past, several things may happen:

You won't be giving the track your full concentration as you're aware he's behind you and wanting to get by

He will get pissed off with you and could try to force his way past - endangering both of you and possibly other people too

If he's a local, he could well be in with the authorities - yep, the people who could (in extremis) ban you from the Ring

So, the moral of this story is ... Leave your pride in the pits - its not racing, boys - its driving a wonderful track!

For example say the correct entry speed for a corner is 50mph. But you do all you braking before the corner, release the pedal, (brief pause) then turn in, the front end washes out.

However come in ever so slightly faster (say 55mph) and as you turn in, dab the brakes, weight distribution goes forward, front end digs in and around you go sweet as a nut.

This was certainly the case in my MR2 Roadster. As is the case for the NSX in GT4. Don't know about the VX though, never driven one. I can demo it for you if you want though

No, the MR2 is real. I've also driven a F355 for real too. Both needed the above technique. However I was pointing out that in this situation GT4 is quite realistic because to get decent NSX laptimes I had to use it.

While we're on the subject:

Popped around my mate's last night, dug out GT4 and the two wheels (I bought one because I said I would if he did, and he did)
and we had a few laps of the 'ring - In the Land Rover Concept vehicle!

It's great - you can cut all of the corners, and do 130mph up past flugplatz.
The speed scrubs off a bit sharpish when it slides - and whoa, did it slide!

Wouldn't recommend that particular course on the real thing, though...
