TTT

Was thinking about 5th gear last night and the high speed runs. Is there a good time to do Vmax runs on the Autobahn. I know there are a few derestricted stretches on the way to the 'ring but last time there was too much traffic.

the only problem I have found is that there are liked minded people.. who might have faster cars...in the acceleration to vmax

one time I was "making progress" near Munich.. only to have to keep ducking back into the middle lane as my mirrors were constantly being filled by xenons from cars that had more horsepower..

I didn't have that problem the last time I was there, but maybe it's because it was generally too busy to get a decent vmax run. But surely when you're doing 150mph there can't be too many cars coming up behind you, considering the majority of the cars that do that kind of speed are limited to 155mph.

I've only tried a full-on Vmax run on a deserted French motorway and reached 153mph on the speedo - which the GPS said was 149mph or so.

All was going well until i caught up with two wagons in the inner and middle lane and thought that I did not want to approach them at nearly 100mph faster and suddenly find that they both move out to overtake an unseen caravan or something. So I bottled it.

Luckily my mate had his camera with him to prove the speed reached.
Unluckily he had the flash on, so it completely wiped the display in the pic.

Bah

Me too.

The added cruelty of 2006 is that Easter is a full month later which means in total it will be a 13 month wait for it to come round. I'm about ready to go now but I'll just have to hang on. Not a week goes by when I don't think about the Ring, I just keep trying to push it to the back of my mind otherwise it's too frustrating.

EDIT: Oh, and Corner! I'll name it Wippermann

Shocker. Having just posted about the Ring as it drifted through my mind I then thought I would look into ferry tickets only to find that Hoverspeed, who were excellent, have gone out of business on Dover - Calais . I'm gutted, last year I got a return ticket for

i got a gps confirmed 148.9mph in Germany last ring trip, but traffic was too much and it was quite warm so I was running the aircon between runs. For my final and best run I left it on! and I could tell that it wasn't pulling as hard as well. I didn't see what the speedo was reading though as I was a bit busy. Judging the general speedo-gps offset it would have read about 155 ish. But I know the car can go faster. Won't have GPS next time though

And as for more drivel... yes, but I've got to fill the time until the next trip somehow. Although I might take a trip to the Isle of Man

Chilled, take in the Isle of Skye on your way - off season the roads are fabulous.
