[camp german accent] Ben, I will help you rub it in.
I always knew I'd get addicted to track days and the 'ring. One of the reasons why i always resisted the urge. I wasn't quite prepared for just how much better the ring is than a "normal" track though.
The only side effect is that I'm pretty good at the ring in GT4 now.

I've used GT4 just to get to know the track but I HATE the fecking thing. and have a best time in an S2k of 9:38.
I've not yet taken the SBC to any other tracks but I am hoping to next year. Trouble is do I spend the money on upgrades or the track .

If you spend the money on upgrades, you won't be able to track it. And do you feel you're getting 100% out of the car as it stands?
I'm spending my money on tracking as opposed to mods. I know which I find more fun.
My best stock s2k time on the ring is 7:56. There's a thread kicking around somewhere with the competition results and rules. I'm currently second. It's much easier with a steering wheel i think. But I've always been good at computer games. It definitely helped me at the ring VERY much though. I was approaching corners on my first lap thinking "aha, this tightens" or "careful, this crest unbalances the car". There's no substitute for real laps on the real thing, but as a way of learning the general layout (as opposed to gears and speeds) GT4 is very good.

Mods can help though, Chilled.
My airbox work, struts and braces have definately improved my lap times. But if you really want to get faster at the Ring, there is simply nothing better than real life laps.
As I've said before, once you've done over 15 laps or so (IMHO), everything really does fall into place and you can start concentrating on getting the perfect line, hitting the dotted apexes and generally being smooth, but fast.
That's why Easter isn't great as a learning session, whereas an off-peak weekend can do wonders for your skills. Isn't that right, Andy?

Indubitabibibly Sir.
Easter will be very much a social, take the p*ss out of c*ck Sc**by drivers session.
A second session, later in the spring, for some serious ringing is definitely on the cards.
Chilled, the reason for mods is that whilst my car is fine up to about 90mph after that the acceleration becomes rather pedestrian. If I can up it from 165bhp to 200bhp then the loss of acceleration shouldn't be so marked until nearer 110mph.
That way I won't need to slipstream Ben up the back straight. Ooh Errr.

In fact, make it a 300bhp monster, then can I have a passenger ride
There are a couple of S2k engined Westies around so it can be done. May take a few years though.
'Til then I'll just have to make the most of the car as it is.
