Expensive fuel wise - aren't the lesser engined 5 & 7 series supposed to be better used buys?

There is/was a thread on the main board just now/recently about 540's I think.

(can think of worse beaters though )

I am just worried that the smaller engines would be a bit gutless. Also the 540's seem to be a bit cheaper than 525's 530's probably to do with the fuel.

The other option seems to be a GS300 or a Golf GTI / GT TDI.

Always thought it was 7 to 1, but I've just had a Google and I've got so far
86
104
110

General consensus seems to be 104. Seems to start at 15 years for the first year, 9 for the second, then 4 thereafter.
