Gordonstoun actually had a poor reputation when I was growing up.

They had bullying problems, and there were always rumours each year about the number of girsl that had become pregnant. (13 was the highest IIRC) Pupils used to mooch about Elgin looking very scruffy as well.

Improved markedly about 20 years ago, and still OK AFAIK. Pupils still get rusticated/expelled etc. It's a bit of an eye opener if you ever go there when there are parents around - one of these places where you can smell the money

I remember passing through on their end of term open day thingie, and it was a bit like Monte Carlo - Rollers, Bentleys, Fezzas, Porkers, Helicopters etc. When most private schools need to build a new science center or boarding house etc, its normally a tough 4 year fundraising campaign. At Gordonstoun (allegedly) they'd just call up one or two parents and ask if they had a million or two spare to fund a new building
