Default WTB - Maybe: 2004 S2000

Hello, everyone! My first post to the NT Forum. I am thinking about getting an '04, preferably black, close 2nd is white. Might consider Red. I'm in Coppell.

Anyhow, I am looking for a fun daily driver/commuter car that I can rely on. Put those words together, and I think S2000! Haven't looked around "hard core" for one yet, but thought ya'll would be a great resource. Did stop by a couple of dealerships for a test drive in an 03 and an 04 to get a feel.

Thanks for your time. If you have one you are selling, thinking about selling, or know of one let me know.

Criteria:
2004
$21,000 tops
24,000 miles or less
Minor mods probably no problem, and might be preferred

Thanks in advance. Maybe I'll see you at an event or car show sometime.

Edit Update: I posted in the NT forum on purpose instead of the For Sale section because of the regionality. I hope you don't mind or am violating some forum rule.

I think the biggest thing about these cars is if you keep your eye out on autotrader and cars.com you can get a REALLY good deal on the car you want in due time.

Good luck on your hunt and I think the two dealerships I've heard people complain about were Autoflex and whatever the honda dealership off of 75 is called (a bit south of G. Bush Tollroad)

Don't want to sound rude but to be honset I'm pretty sure you're not gonna get a car with that low miles for that price. If you want an AP2 with under 25K miles or so is probably gonna be 23 or so. I did some extensive research a while back and most 04's with low miles were still 25K or so.

The best I could find about 6 months ago was 2 different 04's both sebring/red/black with 30/31K miles respectively. Price was 20.5 on the one with a few scratches and 21 on the one that someone else on the board here bought.

There are deals to be had though if you look around, my dad picked up a nearly brand new 06 in showroom condition with 2,700 miles on it for 26.5 a few months ago.

So now I have an S to drive in TX and one to drive in CA but I actually ended up with a brand new 05 RX-8 6spd since it was brand new, more comfortable, practical, had a warranty and cost LESS than a 2 year old S.

Welcome to the group.

A close friend of mine recently got word of a job transfer to Switzerland for 3 years. He is looking to sell his Black/Black 2003 S2000 ASAP. It was used as a second car and has low miles (<20K). It's pretty much perfect.

I think he is hoping to get $20-21K. PM me if you are interested and I will put you guys in touch.

Wow this car is still for sale? I was pretty tempted by it 6 months ago, if only it wasn't black but this is a pretty good deal. I would jump on this way before a 30K mile 04. If David's friend takes care of cars like David then you know it will run forever.

Having driven both AP1s and AP2s I'd go for a 2002 or 2003. The FC20 engine is just better than the FC22.

Actually the best combo is the AP1 engine and the AP2 transmission. It has lower gearing in 1-5 and longer legs in 6th.

Thanks, everyone, for your help and feedback. I have to admit, I was pretty set in an '04 as the one to get. I like the updated style, larger wheels, and torquier engine.

With all that said, I am very curious as to your comments on getting an '03 (AP1) instead. I appreciate all comments.

Thanks,

I used to think the same but after driving both extensively I don't agree anymore. The F22 really has a LOT more usable mid range power as far as I can tell. My girlfriend has an 00 and my dad has an 06. I more or less drove them back to back within a few days and the F22 pulled the 06 up the mountain roads very well even at 3500-5500 rpms where I feel like the F20 really requires higher revs to get really moving fast.

Also the vtec crossover around 5500-6000 in the F22 seems a LOT more evident.

Having owned an AP2 for a year, I'll say that I definitely prefer the AP1 driving experience.
