Every motor is different though. The 03 motor I have with 28k miles had 6 out of spec I believe. I plan on doing mine once a year, but I also plan to track the car a lot. It doesn't take long when the car is cold and you don't find a broken seal

shh adam! Mine would still be burning oil like a stuck pig if you didn't go back to your apt for me. We should have thought about getting the seal when it was cooling down instead of waiting for it too cool and then thought, hey, we may need that.

 

so what are the downfalls of having a valve out of spec?

Having a valve out of spec would mean that an incorrect amount of air would enter the combustion chamber (intake side) because the intake valves wouldn't close or open at the correct time.

or

on the exhaust side, an amount of used air would be trapped in the combustion chamber to be re-used, or the exhaust port opens to early and makes a big mess.
