tires in dallas
Hello fellow owners...
I've got a 2003 S2K and need tires badly (didn't notice until the rain here recently). The rears are just about to the wear indicators.
I'll likely just go with the Potenzas again, unless someone has a truly convincing argument against them, performance wise.
As far as a shop goes, I just want the best technical service (no moron scratching my wheels or screwing up the balancing) and reasonable price (doesn't have to be the absolute cheapest).
So, where's the best place to get tires?
Thanks,
John

We, members of the NTS2KOC, get a discount at Discount Tires. However, each store manager has to "remember" the deal.
I have purchased tires at the Discount Tire in McKinney, but recently have purchased at Discount Tire in Bedford. They matched TireRack pricing and mounted and balanced for about $8/tire.

You'll want the Discount Tire located on I-75 in Plano. You can find it on Discounts website at www.tires.com. The person to talk to is Al Cavan. He handles all deals for the NTS2KOC. Make sure you get the 225/50 WR rated S-02 that is S2000 specific. The ZR-rated is not S2000 specific and is MUCH narrower with wider grooves. Al should know which one's to order.

Weird, the WR version is S2K specific? I had no idea... I thought the OEM was a Z rated tire.
Anything else I need to know?
Btw, thanks for the replies everyone... this forum is great... everyone jumps on stuff so quickly!

Yep, the WR version S2000 specific. Any other 225 width tire will be too narrow by a good margin. If you want to try another tire you'll want to order 245/45-16 rear and 205/55-16 front. Some cheaper but with less performance options include Kumho's Ecsta and Yokohama's ES100.
Rear: 225/50-16 92W - $172
Front: 205/55-16 89W - $154

yep, i bought some tires from him last month for my civic. Not a super great deal on the tires, but the included install and balance made it a good deal. But then I had to drive 3 hours to get there. Anyways he was easy to work with and I highly recommend him!

Cool. Thanks for all the info everyone. I got a local Firestone shop to order two of the S02 rears for me and after all is said and done (tax, balance, mounting, etc) it's just under $400 total... they'll be in tomorrow and I won't have to cross my fingers in the rain anymore (it is downright dangerous at this point and they're not even bald)!
They also told me this type of SO2 is no longer produced, hence shipping it in from a warehouse in CA... I can see why everyone is talking about replacements so much.
Anyone tried to upsize the SO3 or another tire from the same Potenza family?
