Dunlap tire

Phantom,

Check this out. There are reviews on this tire and someone with an S got 22,000 on the rears and 30,000 on the fronts.

Unhappy

I just put the Fuzion ZR1 on my car last week. These are my impressions so far.

Good dry grip. Almost as good as the S02 but with a 320 treadwear versus a 140. The car had 5500 miles on the originals and the rears looked like slicks (still handled great dry but in the rain it was nightmare). I can deal with a little less grip for a lot more miles.

Cost: The S02s aren't available anymore and the replacements for the rear were going to be $425 for 2....I got the set of four Fuzions for $502 out the door.

Better ride for long distance. I commute 36 miles each way and i swear I had blood in my urine from the S02s. The Fuzions make the drive so much nicer.

Handling: The turn in is a little less precise. You have to give it a little more wheel angle to get things started but once in the turn they hang on like white on rice. Because of this, they seem to hold a straight line better at highway speeds without the go-cart dartiness the the S02s had.

In general the Fuzions are a good tire that is a bit more balanced between comfort and performance. I feel for their price, you can't go wrong for the everyday driver. OH YES, but be prepared to pay for tires on a yearly basis if you have to have the stickiest.

I just bought a pair of rear OEM S-02s from Discount Tire for $177 each, plus $25 to balance and install. S-02s are still available and Discount Tire in Bedford is stocking them and will match Tire Rack pricing (if you ask).

Al

If your S-02s aren't wearing evenly (i.e. more inside camber wear)...I believe you can have them removed and remounted on the opposing wheel. Key is to do it before all the inside tread is gone. The rotational direction is maintained, but mounted on the opposite side of the car.

Just be sure to get 245/45 16 like Elistan said if you go with anything other then the OEM Bridestone Potenza S02. That particular tire is much wider than the 225/50 sidewall suggests. Jim at Tire Rack knows this and can fix you up with the right tire...
even if the Fuzion 225 contact patch is .1" less than the S-02?

I don't know if anyone else has much experience with these, but my Eagle F1 GS-D3's are fantastic. The other tires I have used for the S (Potenzas & Yokohama ES100s) have had horrible grip and equally bad tread-life. The Eagle's have, by far, the best wet traction.

This, my friend, is the key to long tire life on the S2k. The aggressive alignment (lots of neg camber) tears up the inside edge of the tire on the street. It may sound excessive but for straight-line driving I would recommend doing this every 7000 miles or so. The alternative is to replace the tires at 20k or so when the inside edges wear out.

Driving aggressively (cornering hard) will help alleviate the inside edge wear by wearing the center and outside edges more (basically more even wear).
