Default Tire Mounting/Balancing

Question for those of you who buy tires from Tire Rack or other places that ship to you...

Where is a good and inexpensive place to take them to get mounted/balanced?

And please do not respond with "Discount Tire..."

Also, I know many of you have the Kuhmo 712's - can I get some feedback from those of you that like/dislike them?

Thanks,

The 712 - noticeable less grip than S02s, but progressive break-away that makes them fun to drive on. Noisy while sliding, fine on the highway. Cheap. Good in the rain (at least when new, I don't know about when they're worn.)

(Moe Howard Voice): "Remind me to kill you later!"

Can I get a non DT answer also?

If I was to use DT, what location is Al working at now?

Thanks, man... I know the S02's are bad bad bad when worn and on wet roads...

When i bought the car, I knew I had to have new rears... Well, the day I took the car to get the new ones, you guessed it - it was raining... 45 MPH and SCARY up 121, which people were passing me like I was standing still.

I may try the 712's out tho, I know I can't go wrong for the price...

Any other opinions?

We have the 712's and if you're just going to drive on the street they're fine but they are terrible for autocross. The compound is just too hard and has no dry grip when you push it.

I'd get the Hankook RS2's or something else for around that price. Make sure you get 245's in the rear, if you want to see what 205/225's look like in Kumho 712's look for me sliding around the next autocross

Yeah, I have no plans to ever autocross the car... I'll look at the Hankooks as well...

Thanks,

Al Cavan is at the Coit/George Bush store. I've heard of several people getting good results from Autoscope in Plano and RUF in Plano. Both are probably going to be a bit more expensive but less of a chance of your wheels getting dinged.

I've gotten my last few sets of tires done at Christensen Tire svc (it's a goodyear store) at... ummm... Arapaho and Plano Rd I think. They're on Tire Rack's list of recommended installers.

It's a little expensive - like $20-something per tire - but they do a good job, they're quick etc.

Oh - I'm all ears on tire recommendations.. it's about time for me to replace again, too. I'm definitely not getting S-02's next time. If nothing else I'll get some S-03's. They're supposed to handle nearly as well as the S-02 but they have a treadwear rating of 220 instead of 140

I agree they are good and I have also used them for maintenance on my wife's car (auto tran service).

But I just got my new set of Hankook S2's through Discount Tire and thus far I am very happy with them. I have found that any Discount outlet will work with you to match a price if you bring in a legit quote.
