If I had to spend 600 I would get a set of 225/245 tires, alignment and a used front swaybar. That's essentially the setup I drove with to win the S2000 street tire class this year for our autocross series (and that was against some cars with some very nice coilovers/supechargers etc). The stock suspension is a good starting poitn and it takes a well matched/tuned aftermarket suspension to truly be an improvement.

If you can up your budget significantly I would suggest a set of KWV3 or Tein RA/RS coilovers. I've ridden/driven a few local cars that had those and the difference was amazing even on street tires (most noteably Lane and Jack's cars)

If you're just driving on the street I'd skip all of that and just go eat some nice steak dinners over the course of a month since the car handles plenty good stock for sane street driving speeds.

The steak dinner does sound good...but its very hard for me to keep the car stock right now. Since it seems that I've caught the mod bug, I figure I would do some worth while modding of the car.

I think I will take your advice cosmos and run 225/245 tires and a used front sway, as well as get the performance alignment as altiain suggested. As for the springs and coilovers, I do want them, but you're right to say that the stock suspension is plenty enough for street use.

Its just the fact that my car may look a bit funny running aftermarket wheels/tire package with stock ride height...

You've received some really good advice in this thread including some specific name brands to use when upgrading. Stick to their advice and you won't go wrong. If you do vary from their advice, do a lot of research before making the purchase or you'll likely make the car worse not better.

Tires Brand Wear Rating
Bridgestone RE-01 140-180
Nito NT-01 100
Toyo RA1 100

The softer (lower) the wear rating, the sticker the tire (also the faster is wears out).

How long would say a tread wear of 140 tire last on average on daily use?

That depends. I typically figure around 10-15k miles out of a set of high performance street tires, regardless of the manufacturer

[QUOTE=altiain,Jan 30 2008, 03:02 PM] One tire not mentioned above that I would recommend as a "budget" high performance tire is the Kumho Ecsta SPT. I've used most of the tires Cosmos mentioned as well, and I would opt for the SPT over the MX any day of the week. The RE-01R, AD07, and RT615 will offer better ultimate dry traction, at the expense of worse wet weather performance. Considering how many S2000s seem to drive ass backwards into guardrails around here every time it rains, I'd keep that in mind, especially if your car is a daily driver.

FWIW, I use SPTs as street tires on my RX-8, and I

[QUOTE=JonBoy,Jan 30 2008, 03:47 PM] I didn't realize the SPTs were so good.
