Default rock chip in glass.. help

well thanks to wonderful 183.. i have a rock embedded in my front window... i just called a glass repair shop and they said since its where in the area where the windshield wipers wipe.. they will not fix it because it can cause "distortion" in the wiping process. is this true? she said my only option was to replace the whole window.. if this is true how much would that cost?

thanks.

Mister Glass on Floyd Rd. in Dallas. They are mobile and the best. I know this because I am an Allstate agent and we use many venders. Get to it soon!

My understanding is that if the chip is in the line of sight, the insurance company won't cover a repair. The glass company may fix it with you signing a liability waiver.

Call me at 972-985-5515 if you have any further questions.

James

I got a similar chip coming back from the Hill Country drive (damn Mini Cooper!!!). I took it to the closest glass place I could find - happened to be Binswanger. I forget what they charged me... $40 or $50 maybe.. but they did a pretty good job.

I was impressed at how cheap new windshields are, though (I asked while I was there)... they could get me one for about $200!

Kaiser is about right on the price and checking into a new windshield is not a bad idea these windshields getting really pitted after a few years because the cars are so low to the ground. I will probably replace my windshield this year due to all of the fine pits. It makes for tough driving when looking into the sun!

Mister Glass' phone number is 972-669-0951. Be sure to tell them that James with Allstate in Plano gave you the number.
