protection against paint chips

protection against paint chips
Is there anyway to protect the paint against chips on the front bumper & hood. I'm not interested in putting a black leather cover at all. I did hear of a clear laminant which serves that purpose. Anybody know more about that?

Some of the clear laminants are good and some are not so good. My experience is that the 3M product (which many dealers use) is not good; it can't cover to edges, around bends, etc. Plus it yellows.
I do like the true "Clear Bra" brand laminate, it's custom installed so it's more expensive, but they can cover to corners, do all bends, headlights, etc. And I haven't seen one yellowed yet.

The product I've used is called X-Pel, it's a 3M product custom made for cars so you can install yourself ( wouldn't; the learning curve is too steep) or have it installed professionalyy. It is prettymuch invisible, especially on metallics and dark colors. It shows up more on white than any other paint job. I had it on my white Z3 and it save the paint for 3 years. It will cover side mirrors, too. And a heavy duty version comes for the headlights. The company, Reflex Enterprises, is in San Antonio. Their Prez and head installer came up to DFW area once a few times to do groups of cars on a Saturday or Sunday. He even came to my house to do my last one. Wish I'd done the S2K as it has a lot of chips. Too late now.
They'll probably still send someone up for a group install on a weekend if you can get a bunch interested. Try this web site- it will direct you to installers, also.
