OT: Intl Phones Calls (Canada)
I'm going to Toronto for a business conference next week and looked into the roaming charges for my cell phone (cingular). It seems like the best rate is 69 cents a minute which is pretty bad. Just wondering what you guys do when you travel internationally? I should have access to an unlocked GSM phone and was thinking about just buying pre-paid cards to call back to the US. Anyone else have any other good alternatives (calling cards etc)?

when my wife travels to Asia we just do the calling cards, it works well...she buys them when she gets over there (company CC) so I couldn't really tell you how much it costs.
Too bad the Canadian dollor is doing so good, I remember when we lived in Seattle we'd go to BC for a fraction of the cost, everything was something like 40% off...it was awesome!

Or I purchase the $9.95/day Internet/LD package the hotel offers.

Thanks for all the advice, I probably need to switch phones with the g/f then since her 6680 is unlocked. On the phone cards is it usually a 1800 number you dial through? If so I'm guessing you could use our cell phone and not incur any roaming/LD charges in Canada?

^ No, I think you still incur roaming charges if you call from your cell phone. You'd need to use the phone card from a regular landline. If you want to use your cell phone without roaming charges, you'll need to get a prepaid SIM, instead of a prepaid phone card.
Keep in mind that with the prepaid SIM, you'll have a different phone number, too.
