Hmmm 5th place and I didn't get my 8th run. I musta mis counted. I sure coulda used that last run since it is obvious from the times that I only found all the gates on the course on the 7th run.
#18 = Spa yellow 2002
I just counted the DNFs. I wasn't alone! There were 42 in the S2000 class alone. The first lap only 2 came thru without a DNF. To me that says a few more cones on course would have been very helpful.
I understand why you don't want to change the course design in mid stream, but I see no reason an obvious problem like this could be fixed mid stream (lunch maybe) to help correct it.

I think I'll keep my 17" OEM's, and get some Kumho XS's. I just worry that they won't hold up to the temps at MSR for HPDE's
It's today's weather where the XS's are at a big disadvantage compared to warmer weather performance (a half second or more).

Either the XS or the Star Specs would be a great choice for a dual purpose autocross/track tire. Both like the heat, and both work well on heavier cars as well (compared to an ST Civic, CRX, or Miata, an S2k is a heavy car).
Greg, street tires have come light years since you last autocrossed. Those BFGs you've got are about as effective as snow tires against the current top street tires like the XS, Star Specs, and AD08s.
As for these being "S2000 events", you might want to take a closer look at what cars the people running the event are driving these days.
Seriously though, the NTAKS events are a joint effort. They wouldn't happen without either the S2000 people or the Miata people. So if you happen to run first every now and then... man up, buddy.

I really enjoyed the event today! However, I REALLY wish the S2000 group would run 2nd and 4th heat instead of 1st and 3rd. It seems that the S2000 group gets screwed TWICE since they don't get the advantage of watching cars run during the 1st heat, then they are the very last to get to leave since they are working the course until the last car has its last run. This is an S2000 club, right? Could we at least split the difference, and let the S2000 group run 1st and 4th, or 2nd and 3rd?
On another note, I'm really curious what the top S2000's with street tires were using for tires. I don't see how there were 3 S2000's below 50 seconds, then all the others were above 51 seconds.. I don't think I could have hit the 49.XXX range with my current setup (tires or alignment). I really felt like I "nailed it" on 4 runs, with 4 different strategies, but couldn't break 51 seconds. Could it be that the BFG KDW2's are 2+ seconds slower than the Kumho XS on a 50 second course?
It's been over 5 years since I've done an event, so it's extremely likely that I just never found a good line. Did anyone see anything in partucular that I was consistently doing wrong today?

The impala was impressive, that tank put down some good times.

I'm going to kidnap and burn some cones at the stake tomorrow to make myself feel better. *sigh*
Thanks to jrj512 and all the un-sung people making this event happen. Look like this club is going to be safe after all Life was drastically different at the end of last year for the S2K autox...
